Gov. Josh Shapiro addresses Vice President consideration during New Castle stop

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stopped in New Castle Wednesday to talk about how a newly-signed law will help lower prescription drug costs and protect local pharmacies.
While there, Shapiro also addressed recent discussions on potentially being picked as Kamala Harris's running mate for the Democratic ticket.
A number of outlets have named Shapiro as a leading contender for a Vice Presidential candidate alongside Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.
The governor addressed a number of endorsements for a Harris-Shapiro ticket coming from political leaders, ahead of an official announcement.
"That is a deeply personal decision that should be made free from any political pressure," he noted.
Shapiro did not give confirmation that the Harris campaign is vetting him for the role.
He later said that both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had called him Sunday following the announcement of Biden's exit from the race.
"She asked me for my endorsement, and to discuss how to beat Donald Trump here in Pennsylvania," Governor Shapiro said of his conversation with Harris. "That's all we discussed, and she and I have not spoken since then."
Governor Josh Shapiro also dismissed calls for other Democrats to challenge Harris at the Democratic National Convention.
"For anyone calling for any open process I will tell you we had one. And she kicked butt, and she earned the support, and she earned the nomination, and I'm proud to support her," Shapiro said of Harris's campaign.
