1999: The Mahoning County coroner's office says Canfield softball coach Thomas Olinski, 49, shot his wife, Terry, 51, and then himself at their Fox Den Road home in Canfield Township.
Pennsylvania is expected to lose as many as three of its 21 congressional seats after the 2000 census, and U.S. Rep. Ron Klink says western Pennsylvania will be affected.

The Ohio Supreme Court rules that Niles' anti-marijuana law, touted as the toughest in the state, is constitutional. The case involved a man who was sentenced to six months in jail and fined $550 for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.

Youngstown police are trying to find out how a 13-year-old boy got his hands on a gun and shot himself in the juvenile detention center on Parkwood Avenue. The boy, who is in serious condition, was picked up by police after being found sleeping in an old car at a Glenwood Avenue gas station. He had ridden his bicycle about 35 miles from Mogadore to Youngstown.
