A Sunday service at Trinity United Methodist church was dedicated to Sean Baran, a musician who used his talents playing the organ to lead the congregation in song.

Baran, an organist at Boardman United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church in Youngstown, was struck and killed by a car as he walked along east Fairlawn Avenue in Boardman Friday afternoon.

"When he played the organ which is the biggest organ in Youngstown he could make this organ sing," Song leader Susan Price said.

"We were looking forward to planning some different events together. Just last week we released the Youngstown hymn sing that we were able to collaborate and work on together. He had a rich passion for the music of the church and the stories that the hymn all told," Reverend Sam Mohn, Lead Pastor of Youngstown United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church.

Baran,35, earned his bachelor, and master's degrees from YSU's Dana School of Music, and taught piano and music theory.

Friends say he also had a beautiful voice, loved nature photography, and served on the Millcreek MetroParks Board.  He taught at Lincoln Park Performing Arts High School in PA.

He also served as music director at the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.

"We'll be missing him. He was always there if our organist couldn't be there, and he had his hands in everything Youngstown," Price added.
