South High holds reunion & excited over Valley Christian take over of stadium
South High School In Youngstown has been closed since the 1993.
It's last football game played on campus was in 1981.
More than 150 former South athletes and alumni met a Ala Carte Catering in Canfield for its yearly reunion.
This group was especially excited that Valley Christian High School has taken it upon themselves to raise $10 million and renovate South Stadium for its home football games.
"South had a very large population and many of those people and athletes are still around so its a good thing," said Judge Robert Douglas, a 1958 South graduate.
The stadium hasn't hosted a high school football game since 1981.
"I'm glad to see that their bringing it back. A lot of guys got their careers going there," said 1980 graduate Garcia Lane.
Many of the alumni in attendance we're happy the stadium was being resurrected.
"They have a great plan. They're concerned about our interest as far as our legacy and they want to preserve it all," said Tony Boatwright, Class of 1967.
Atty. Ted Roberts, a 1964 South graduate says the new concept breeds fresh life into a town that really need it and the community can rally around it.
