Lowellville restaurant to cease daily service operations

A valley restaurant known for it's pasta dishes and for serving hungry steelworkers back in the day, will no longer be open for daily customers.
The owner of Carchedi's in Lowellville says covid hit hard.
"Just the inconsistency of one week being great and the next week being stagnant," said owner, Mike Romeo Jr.
When everything opened back up they lost help and some of their older customers.
Not having enough workers took a toll.
"It led to a level on inconsistency that i couldn't accept. If we weren't consistent with our food every single time, one time you come here it's good next time it's different, that was a big problem for me," said Romeo.
Joseph Carchedi started the business in 1963 selling pasta to steelworkers out of a house in Lowellville. Mike Romeo Jr. bought the business in 2018 because he just couldn't let the restaurant, a town staple, go away.
"Our big thing was obviously pastas and pizzas. Our wedding soup here, everybody talks about it," Romeo said.
But now Mike says being open every day is now not possible. He plans to regroup and probably use the same recipes and name for catering and other events.
"We still have people answering the phones, we are still taking messages. We are going back to the drawing board. I have a feeling we will focus on catering and small events," Romeo said.
The restaurant business isn't easy and people's tastes change but Mike believes people will always have a taste for Carchedi's and he plans to make it available in some way for years to come.
