The cause of a fire that broke out at a three-story commercial building in Ellwood City is under investigation.

The fire happened shortly before 10:00 PM Friday night at the building in the 500 block of Lawrence Avenue.

Fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from the building and located the fire on the second floor.  The building had been undergoing renovations for a few years with plans to open a bookstore.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control in just under 2 hours.  A building next door housing a pizza shop and apartments on the second floor suffered some smoke damage.

The fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.  No one was injured.
