Man pleads guilty to deadly Youngstown shooting on his 21st birthday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A man involved in a deadly Youngstown shooting back in April of 2023 pled guilty to his role in the crime on his 21st birthday according to court records.
The Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office confirmed with 21 News that 21-year-old Elijah May pled guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm into a habitation.
Both of these charges came with firearm specifications.
The charges stem from the deadly shooting of 22-year-old Ray'Mon Sims back in April of 2023. Sims was shot as he was driving near Tod Lane on Youngstown's north side.
Soon after, Sims crashed his car on Alameda Avenue. Following the crash, Sims and another male ran to Crandall Avenue where they were assisted by EMTs and police.
Court records show May is scheduled for sentencing August 12.
