CANFIELD, Ohio - The Mahoning County Bar Association is recommending an indefinite suspension for a Canfield attorney who was convicted in a scheme to steal $1.3 million from the IRS.

According to a filing in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Bar Association recommended an indefinite suspension for attorney Robert Rohrbaugh II with credit for time served under his interim felony suspension from February of 2023.

Rohrbaugh was convicted in Janaury of 2023 of trying to steal over $1.3 million from the IRS stemming from his role in helping co-conspirators Brandon Mace and Terris Chanley Baker in obtaining a tax refund check for a fictitious business in the amount of $1,352,799.

Court documents showed that in early 2015, Mace and Baker attempted to launder money by purchasing high-end luxury vehicles and that the two used $150,000 of that refund check to pay Rohrbaugh for his services.

Rohrbaugh was sentenced to 52 months in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit offenses against the Unite States, aiding and abetting theft of government property, aiding and abetting false claims against the United States and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

In March of 2024, Rohrbaugh's clients who did not have their services with him completed prior to his conviction were reimbursed for that incomplete service.
