Feds seize over $45,000 from Youngstown correctional nurse accused of selling tobacco to inmates

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A nurse at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown has been indicted for allegedly smuggling tobacco for inmates in exchange for money.
According to the indictment, federal agents seized over $45,000 from a Huntington National Bank money market account in the name of Alexis Schneider.
Schneider has been indicted in federal court on one count each of conspiracy to commit providing contraband in prison, accepting bribes and providing tobacco to an inmate.
According to the indictment, between June and September of 2021, Schneider would smuggle the tobacco products into the prison and sell it to inmates using the online payment app CashApp.
In total, agents seized $45,401 from Schneider's money market account. Schneider was indicted August 6.
