A Poland man is facing assault charges after allegedly punching an umpire in the face at a men's league baseball game in Boardman.

According to a police report, police officers were called to Boardman High School on the afternoon of Sunday, August 11, after receiving a call stating that one man punched another man. They were also informed that the alleged suspect left the scene and was traveling northbound on Glenwood Avenue in a white-colored SUV.

Police state that when they arrived, a vehicle matching the reported registration was leaving the parking lot of Boardman High School onto Glenwood Avenue. They conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 41-year-old Jeremy Morgan of Poland.

The report also states that police made contact with the umpire, who is the alleged victim.

According to the police report, the umpire ejected Morgan, a coach involved in the game, after Morgan commented after a play, "Thanks for getting out of your f*****g car blue."

The report states that the ejection led to the two men's face-to-face altercation. Morgan allegedly pushed the umpire before punching him on the right side of his face. The altercation was broken up when players intervened.

Officers observed a small red mark with minor swelling on the umpire's right cheek.

According to the report, Morgan provided a written statement saying he pushed the umpire but did not say if he punched him.

Police drove the umpire to the traffic stop on Glenwood Avenue where he positively identified Morgan.

Morgan was arrested and taken to the Mahoning County Jail and is now facing an assault charge for the alleged incident.
