Three Mercer County men accused of throwing water bottles on I-79 overpass in Lawrence County

Three Mercer County men are accused of throwing water bottles at multiple vehicles on the I-79 overpass in Lawrence County.
According to the criminal complaint, Ryan Long of Grove City, Noah Krofcheck of Mercer and Dylan Root of Sharon, all age 20, are all charged with criminal mischief and propulsion of missiles onto roadways.
Police say the incident happened all the way back in September of 2023 shortly before 5:00 a.m. Police received reports of someone throwing items off of the overpass of Brent Road on I-79 in Plain Grove Township striking vehicles driving below on I-80.
Police spoke with three victims, all of whom reported damage to their windshields and front areas. Some of the vehicles had labels from Aquafina water bottles stuck to them.
The criminal complaint shows a combined total of $3,485.30 worth of damage to the vehicles.
None of the victims were able to identify any of the suspects and were only able to tell police the items were being thrown from an unknown pickup truck.
According to the complaint, investigation revealed the pickup truck in question to have been stolen and police were able to identify the three 20-year-olds as suspects.
Police first spoke with Long about the incident. Long allegedly told police he knew about the incident, but was not there at the time. However, police say Long deflected questions and was caught in lies multiple times.
Eventually, Long told police Root was the one who was throwing the bottles.
Police later spoke with Root, who told police the three stopped at a convenience store and bought a case of water bottles. Root went on to say Long and Krofcheck told him to stop at the overpass.
Root went on to tell police the two started throwing the water bottles and told him to join them or they would "tell people things about him." Police say Root admitted to joining them.
All three suspects are scheduled to appear in court September 10.
