YOUNGSTOWN - One person was injured in a crash that knocked out power and closed a road in Youngstown early Thursday.

An SUV struck a utility pole and flipped over at 2 a.m. along Poland Avenue, east of Center Street.

According to a police report, officers found the driver, identified as 36-year-old Christopher Nickell stumbling around the car with one shoe missing.

Police say Nickell's speech was slurred and that he was unable to maintain balance and smelled like an alcoholic beverage. Nickell told police he saw something run out in front of his car and he crashed.

Nickell was taken to the hospital with injuries that police say are not life-threatening.

Once he was treated, police tried to get Nickell to submit to a blood test, but Nickell repeatedly told police he would like to speak to an attorney first.

According to court records, Nickell is charged with OVI. He also received two citations for failure to control and failure to display plates or a valid sticker. He will be arraigned on Friday at 9:00 a.m.

The crash knocked out power to the area.
