Local organizations gathered to cut the ribbon on a new Sensory Suite at Eastwood Field in Niles.

The Rich Center for Autism and Mahoning Valley Scrappers teamed up to create the space designed for individuals and their families on the autism spectrum.

Families started using the suite at the beginning of the season - and it's been filled for every home game since its launch.

Youngstown State University President Bill Johnson was in attendance to celebrate the opening of the suite, he even threw out the first pitch.

"We know that one in 36 children are diagnosed with some form of autism," Johnson said. "It's so vitally important that we give those children the opportunity to participate in things like sports so the sensory room that we have here at Scrappers Field is a great opportunity for them."

The suite is available to anyone across the Mahoning Valley in need of its services and can be reserved on the Scrappers website.
