3rd annual golf outing benefits four Columbiana Co. police department K9 units
Around 30 golf teams raised money for a few Columbiana County K9 units.
It was the third annual K9 Golf Outing at the Salem Hills golf course.
The Salem Police Department hosts the event each year to raise money for their K9 unit and this year they raised funds for the Columbiana, Lisbon and St. Clair Township police departments as well.
The money will go toward training equipment that smaller departments need for their K9's but often can't afford on their own.
"The sad truth is, most of our K9 units run completely off donations," Salem K9 handler Michael Garber said. "If we don't have large scale events like this, with all of our sponsors and everyone who helps out, we wouldn't really exist. They make it possible for our K9 unit to be successful and protect our communities."
The department is always accepting donations through the Salem Community Foundation's K9 Fund.
