The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the triple fatal July 22 airplane crash near the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

The report states the airplane was higher than normal when beginning the approach.

The report added, "As the airplane proceeded down the runway, it descended toward the runway; however, it did not touch down. At the end of runway 32, the airplane pitched up rapidly to the left and began to “flip.” The airplane then descended below his field of view and crashed."

The flight left Plattsburgh International Airport in Plattsburgh, New York, at 4:51 p.m. and headed for John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus. The airplane climbed to 16,500 ft. and approximately 50 miles outside of Youngstown when the pilot reported he had lost his left engine power and couldn't maintain altitude.

The report shows the pilot was offered information on closer airports, but the pilot requested Youngstown for the longer runway.

The pilot and passengers killed when a twin-engine engine plane crashed near the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport were identified as Jawdat Khawam, 54 years old; Martine Arseneault, 45; and Daphne Khawam, 8. All three were from Laval, Quebec, which is near Montreal.

Khawam was the President and CEO of Uandmycar.com, the owner of the  Beechcraft BE-60. He operated the airplane, and possessed both Canadian and U.S. Federal Aviation Administration private pilot certificates with airplane single-engine land and airplane multiengine land ratings.

The NTSB noted that the information is preliminary and subject to change.

Records show that this plane was built in 1977.
