OVI checkpoints scheduled this weekend in Mahoning, Trumbull counties

Drivers in Mahoning County may encounter sobriety checkpoints in both Mahoning and Trumbull Counties this weekend.
The Mahoning County OVI Taskforce announced it will conduct two checkpoints on the evening of Friday August23, as well as Saturday August 24.
Officers will be doing roadside checks of the drivers for alcohol and drug impairment.
Specific details of the checkpoints time and locations will be released later, before each checkpoint is expected to happen.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol will hold a checkpoint in Trumbull County Saturday evening.
“Based on provisional data, there were 379 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 405 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lieutenant D. W. Morrison, commander of the Warren post, said.
The location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning.
A 1990 Supreme Court ruling said holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.
The ruling did not spell out what was considered an adequate notification.
