Arsenic is a naturally occurring, semimetallic element widely distributed in the Earth’s crust. Arsenic levels in the environment can vary by locality, and it is found in water, air and soil, according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Food also contains low levels of organic arsenic, according to the institute.

However, inorganic arsenic is believed to be more toxic than organic arsenic and could lead to more severe health impacts to your cardiovascular system, endocrine system, nervous system and more.
