Nurses union, health insurer file objections over Steward's plan to close Trumbull hospitals

Objections have been filed to the closing notifications with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Two separate objections were filed on Wednesday, one by the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA) and the other by UnitedHealthcare Company (UHC) and its affiliates.
According to the court filings, The Ohio Nurses Association, the labor union that represents nurses at Trumbull Regional and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, objected to the closure filing by Steward Health.
The ONA says the nurses at Hillside have remained committed to providing care to patients throughout the Steward Health bankruptcy process. The union says the patients who need care will be forced to travel to get the services they need.
The ONA said the filing is a joinder to the joint objection filed by the City of Warren and Trumbull County.
UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company's filing does not object to the closure of the facilities, but the actual closure notices with regard to the facility closure date.
UHC's filing said to comply with regulations set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to avoid prejudice to its members. United said they are required to give members at least 30 days.
According to the filing, more than 7,000 UHC members would be affected by the closure and it would take about 10 days to notify them.
In the objection, United requests that the facility closure date be no earlier than 40 days after it receives notice of the date of the closure of the facilities.
