Youngstown man accused of firing 20 shots outside home to celebrate his birthday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown man is set to appear in court on Friday after police say he fired 20 shots outside of his home to celebrate his birthday.
According to a police report, police responded to North Hartford Avenue near Roy Street shortly after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
The caller told police the shots came from a home on the 2300 Block of Roy Street. Officers went to the home in question and found 20 spent shell casings in the driveway.
Police knocked on the door and eventually spoke to 31-year-old Rey Mendoza who allegedly told police he shot the 20 rounds in celebration of his birthday.
Mendoza was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm within city limits.
He was ordered to appear in court on Thursday to answer to this charge, but court records show this date has since been moved to Friday.
