Niles Police arrest man on animal cruelty warrant
NILES, Ohio - Niles Police have arrested a Warren man on New Year's Day nearly one year after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest involving an animal cruelty case.
Dean Kirsch, 32, was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on Thursday. Records show Niles police took him into custody following a warrant issued in January 2025.
The warrant was issued after Kirsch allegedly failed to follow the rules of his probation. A judge had previously ordered him to pay fines and stay away from animals after he pleaded guilty to a cruelty charge in September 2024.
The original case began when Niles police and a local rescue group found a dog living in a house filled with trash and waste. The dog did not have food or water at the time. The animal was taken to the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project for care and has since improved.
As part of his sentence, Kirsch was banned from ever owning or living with animals again. He also faced more than $2,000 in fines and court costs, of which records show only $30 has been paid.
Kirsch is being held in jail as he waits for a court hearing scheduled for Friday morning. His bond is set at $5,000.
