The Village of East Palestine will receive over $211,000 in grants to fund street safety improvements throughout the village.

According to a press release, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $211,488 to the Village of East Palestine through its Safer Streets for All Program in order to improve local streets.

The Safer Streets for All Program funds regional and local initiatives through grants to prevent serious injuries and deaths on the road.

The release quotes Ohio-based U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, who says this investment will support the people of East Palestine by making its roadways safer.

"The investment will assist the Village of East Palestine's efforts to improve local streets and intersections to prevent serious accidents and keep Ohioans safe on the road," Brown said.

21 News has reached out to village officials to see what specific streets will be worked on and what specific improvements will be made. We are waiting to hear back.
