Three years ago we introduced you to 7-year-old Michael Partoleno, whose battling a rare neurological disorder called Batten Disease. There is no cure and it's 100% fatal. The body deteriorates and eventually shuts down.

Michael is now ten and still fighting hard.

"He still does horse therapy, his feet, the muscles in his feet have begun to deteriorate a little bit more than you know previously," Partoleno said. "So, he does still wear like foot molds inside of his shoes, which, again, what 10-year-old wants to put on plastic molds in your feet. About this disease, there's so many things that these kids, some get all of the symptoms, and some just get, like, you know, it's like you're picking and choosing which symptoms they get. So, insomnia is a new one for us, where he's not falling asleep to go to school in the morning until like, two o'clock in the morning, and then the next day of school is kind of rough, you know, but, but all in all, he's doing okay."

Every year, a golf benefit is held at Parto's Golf Learning Center to raise awareness of the horrible disease and support Michael's battle. This year's outing is Saturday, September 14th, it's the fifth annual.

"As it stood this morning, we only had two team spots for the 9am, the 1pm is full, and the 4pm, there were six team spots left," Tammy Partoleno said.

There will be live music, food from Bogey's, a 50/50 raffle, a basket raffle, silent auction and of course a 9-hole scramble. Because Michael is blind, each golfer must hit and use one blindfolded tee shot.

"Michael is actually going to go out on the golf course," Partoleno said. "So, we thought maybe that hole, the blind shot hole, would be a good hole for him to kind of, you know, take a couple shots with people as they go through the golf course. So yeah, just a big, long, fun day and we tell people, even if you're not golfing and you want to, you know, help out somehow, anytime after 10 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, up until about five, six o'clock, you know, just the general public can come and buy tickets for the basket raffle. 5050, then enjoy the other things that we have going on, you know, just if they want to come and support and just even if they just want to come and see if they can win something."

All of the proceeds go toward Michael's needs.

We appreciate everybody, really," Partoleno said. "I mean, it's been a long road, and, like we said, five years, and, you know, I didn't think we'd be here. I didn't want, I didn't want to have the need to be here, you know, in five years. But we are so, you know, we're just thankful that the community has really wrapped their arms around him. We use that money to modify a bathroom that's downstairs, because we know there's going to come a time where I'm not going to be able to get him up those steps. And that's what that's what that money is doing. It's helping make sure that we are prepared for him, for whatever tomorrow might bring."
