WARREN, Ohio - A Brookfield man who pleaded guilty after being charged with child endangering for a second time in less than three years has been put on probation and sentenced to a program designed to reduce criminal behavior.

Brookfield Police charged 34-year-old Jerami Wells in March after they said he left his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter and five-year-old son alone at his Addison Road apartment while he walked to a convenience store one-third of a mile away.

A neighbor told police that she found the apartment door open with music blaring, claiming she had been trying to reach Wells for 20 minutes.

Police said they were trying to rouse someone in the apartment when Wells returned home, claiming he was away about five or ten minutes.

When the officer asked Wells if he knew why it was not acceptable to leave a five and one-year-old home alone, the police report said he replied "No."

In addition to placing Wells on probation for three years, Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge sentenced Wells to NEOCAP, a Community-Based Corrections Facility that works to reduce the offender’s tendency to re-offend.
