NEWTON TWP, Ohio - The man convicted of a murdering a 19-year-old Newton Township man in 1992 has been approved to be released on parole despite the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office's wishes for him to remain incarcerated.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority voted 5-4 to grant parole for Christopher Ferrell, who shot and killed 19-year-old Douglas Lash in 1992. He was 17 years old at the time of the crime, which shielded him from the death penalty.

Ferrell was sentenced to multiple concurrent 10-to-25-year and eight-to-15-year sentences on these charges. He served over 30 years of this sentence.

Seven people testified on Ferrell's behalf at his parole hearing, as well as public defender Ross Smith.

Ferrell will be released for prison on November 18 and will begin a five-year "highly-supervised" parole. He is expected to live in Stark County once he's released.
