Two Mercer County schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools

MERCER, Pa. - Two Shenango Valley schools have been honored with a prestigious national award for their academic excellence. The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced that Mercer Area High School and Oakview Elementary School have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes schools that create safe and welcoming environments where students can excel academically. Schools are recognized in one or both of two categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Dr. Khalid N. Mumin praised the schools for their commitment to providing a world-class education to their students. “These distinguished schools serve as models in our Commonwealth’s large and diverse public education system,” he said.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona echoed Mumin’s sentiments, noting that the award is a testament to the hard work of students and educators. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students,” Cardona said.
This year, 356 schools nationwide were named National Blue Ribbon Schools.
