Mahoning Valley - Schools in all three Mahoning Valley counties have received funding to support opportunities for students to pursue a career technical education.

In Mahoning County, the Valley STEM + ME2 Academy at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center received $649,018 for its advanced manufacturing and engineering program.

Meanwhile in Trumbull County, Brookfield Local Schools received $1,444,402.60 for its engineering program, and in Columbiana County, United Local Schools received $744,464.51 for its agriculture and construction programs.

These schools were among 34 schools across Ohio to receive grant funding through the Ohio Department of Education's Career Technical Education Equipment Program.

The funds will be used to upgrade these schools' equipment in an effort to teach students the skills needed by Ohio businesses.

In a press release, Ohio Lieutenant Governor John Husted is quoted saying this funding will help these schools invest in the tools necessary to shape students' futures in the career technical workplace.

"We want every high school graduate to be career-ready, and to make that happen, students need to train on the same modern equipment they will have in the workplace," Husted said.
