Valley schools get more than $2M in grants for career technical education

Three schools in the valley have been awarded more than a combined $2 million in grants for career technical education access.
Part of the state's second round of Career Technical Education Equipment Grant, the money went to Columbiana United Local Schools Agriculture, Construction; Mahoning Valley STEM+ME2 Academy Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering; and, Trumbull Brookfield Local Schools Engineering.
Below is the dollar amounts broken down:
- Columbiana United Local Schools Agriculture, Construction: $744,464.51
- Mahoning Valley STEM+ME2 Academy Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering: $649,018
- Trumbull Brookfield Local Schools Engineering: $1,444,402.60
The three schools were part of 34 that were selected across the state for grants. The goal is to allow these organizations to upgrade the equipment they use in order to teach students the skills required by Ohio businesses. Said skills include engineering, manufacturing, construction and more.
More than 6,000 students are estimated to benefit from this recent round of grants, according to Gov. Mike DeWine's office.
"We want every high school graduate to be career-ready, and to make that happen, students need to train on the same modern equipment they will have in the workplace," said Lt. Governor Jon Husted. "These grants will help the schools invest in that machinery and technology so their students will be ready to go to work when they graduate."
