A Lowellville man has been charged in connection with a serious rollover crash that authorities say was no accident.

Thirty-two-year-old Paul Jones is free on a $50,000 bond following his arraignment this week on an indictment charging him with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of felonious assault, and two counts of aggravated menacing.

The charges stem from a crash that shut down River Road in Lowellville on August 17.

Lowellville Police brought in the Ohio State Highway Patrol to investigate the crash involving Jones’ Chevy Silverado pickup truck and a Jeep Cherokee SUV.

The Jeep had rolled over on its side and the pickup truck had heavy front-end damage.

The driver and a passenger were trapped in the Jeep. Both were unconscious.  The male driver had broken bones and a severe laceration.  Both were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Jones told the patrol that the Jeep’s brakes locked up and it went left of center before the crash.  However, a Trooper writes in the report that the crash may have been intentional since there was no evidence that the Jeep went left of center or locked its brakes.

The indictment alleges that Jones purposely attempted to kill the two people in the Jeep.
