A search and rescue team from Calcutta is being deployed to help rescue efforts during Hurricane Helene.

The community's volunteer fire department's search and rescue swift water team, composed of Tye Edwards of Liverpool Township Fire department and Lt. Randy Schneider, were requested by Franklin County in Florida.

They will be sending down personnel, 2 boats, water and rope rescue equipment and search and rescue equipment.

This will be the departments 5th trip which consisted of Hurricane Ida Louisana 2021, Mayfield Kentucky tornado 2021, Eastern Kentucky Floods 2022 and Hurricane Ian Fort Myers Beach 2022, according to a news release from the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department.

Hurricane Helene was upgraded to a major Category 4 storm Thursday afternoon. Landfall is expected by the evening.
