Akron Children's hosts drive-thru flu shot clinic in Mahoning Valley

Akron Children's Hospital will offer a convenient drive-thru flu shot clinic on Sunday, Oct. 6 for residents of the Mahoning Valley.
The clinic will be held at the Akron Children's Mahoning Valley/Boardman campus located at 6505 Market Street in Boardman, Ohio. While appointments are encouraged, they are not required.
Drive-thru clinics begin at 8:00 am and end times vary. Those interested in scheduling an appointment or checking specific clinic end times can visit the Akron Children's website at akronchildrens.org/flu.
Anyone between the ages of 6 months and 65 years can be vaccinated without leaving their car.
Public health officials emphasize the importance of annual flu vaccinations, particularly for children. A flu shot can significantly reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization, especially for children with pre-existing conditions like asthma or diabetes.
Akron Children's estimates their flu vaccinations during the 2023-2024 season prevented an estimated 12,000 influenza illnesses and 2,000 outpatient visits based on data from previous flu seasons.
