Multiple Valley cemeteries receive grants to support maintenance, training

Multiple non-profit cemeteries in the Mahoning Valley have received grant funding to support maintenance and training.
In Mahoning County, Eckis Cemetery in Milton Township received $2,500 for tree removal and the Jackson Township Cemetery also received $2,500 for the repair and resetting of monuments.
Meanwhile in Trumbull County, the Girard Liberty Union Cemetery received $2,500 for the repair and painting of the current cemetery chapel and storage building.
The Hubbard Union Cemetery also received $2,500 to purchase a new computer system.
These grants are part of $104,000 in grants from the Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Real Estate and Production Licensing's (REPL) Fiscal Year 2025 Cemetery Grant Fund.
REPL Superintendent Daphne Hawk is quoted in a press release saying this is the sixth year REPL has awarded grants to support non-profit cemeteries in completing critical projects that may not be addressed otherwise due to a lack of funding.
"We are honored to provide these important funds to help Ohio's beautiful cemeteries improve recordkeeping, restore monuments, repair fencing, improve signage and enhance visitor safety, all of which helps preserve a piece of our state's history," Hawk said.
