Warren Township police officers fired for entering home without warrant in domestic dispute

Back in August, 21 News reported on two Warren Township police officers who were placed on paid administrative leave after complaints that they had entered a home without a warrant. Now, township officials have confirmed that those two officers have been fired.
Warren Township Trustee Ed Anthony tells 21 News that officers Eric Setele and Travis Sheese have both been fired by the Warren Township Police Department after they entered a home without a warrant back in August of 2024.
The incident happened after police received a call regarding a domestic dispute in a home on Bane Street.
According to a police report, a mother and daughter were on the scene with the daughter "screaming in pain and agony" stating she was accidentally pepper sprayed by her mother.
Police say the mother was trying to intervene in a fight between her son-in-law and daughter. The reports states that the son-in-law and another suspect fled the scene and were believed to be armed and dangerous.
Officers were given an address where they might be able to find the suspects. When they got there, they loudly knocked on the door and announced their presence, but no one answered.
Police said the door opened slightly after several knocks and officers went into this home. Officers defended their actions saying they entered due to "the incident that had just occurred, the fact our suspects were believed to be armed, their history of violent crime, and the presence of at least one adult upstairs ignoring our calls."
However, the woman in the home, who was caring for children at the time, felt differently asking why police entered the house without a warrant with police saying she was "visibly upset and annoyed" with the situation.
The suspect was not found in the house.
Warren Township Police Chief Ben Harrell previously told 21 News it is "common sense" not to enter a home without a warrant and this is something officers learn in the police academy that could result in termination.
