A Columbiana Co. man has been indicted for causing serious physical harm to a companion animal with a firearm specification.

Daniel A. Curl, 38, of Columbiana, was indicted by a Mahoning County Grand Jury last week after allegedly shooting a cat with a .22 caliber gun.

According to the police report, a man called police on September 16 for a report of a man who found his cat was shot in the head in the 100 block of Lipply Road.

According to the police report, Curl told police he shot the cat and attempted to shoot it a second time, but the cat ran away. He told the officers that he shoots at raccoons that get into his belongings on his porch. Curls showed police where the cat was on his property and told officers he wasn't aware it was his family member's pet.

The police report stated that the cat was his cousin's pet, who lived near Curl's house.

Curl was indicted on October 10 by a Mahoning County Grand Jury, and a warrant for a fifth-degree felony with the gun specification was issued.

No court date has been set in the case as of the publishing of this story.
