COLUMBIANA, Ohio - An American Legion post in Columbiana teamed up with Fred Martin Ford to donate pet food to those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

American Legion Post 290 member Ernest Thomas told 21 News the post purchased nearly 14,000 pounds of pet food from Ohio Pet Food in Lisbon to be delivered to North Carolina.

Thomas said R&J Trucking was originally supposed to pick up and haul the food, but this never happened. That's when Fred Martin Ford got involved.

Now, Fred Martin Ford is storing the purchased pet food in its showroom and has moved cars to make way for the supplies. They ask that more people add to the pet food collection if possible. Donations will be accepted until the end of October.

From there, all collected donations will be sent to Robert Duncan Ministries in North Carolina where it will be given to those in need.

In addition to food, Fred Martin Ford is accepting the following items for pets:

  • Water
  • Toys
  • Blankets
  • Pet beds
  • Miscellaneous pet supplies
  • Monetary donations
