"The Open" getting underway in Downtown Youngstown
Downtown Youngstown will be buzzing with activity today as preparations for "The Open" are underway. Workers could be seen early, setting the stage up for what the city hopes will be an impactful comeback.
"It's very important to just get people down here and make sure that we can bring it back to what it used to be and hopefully have some better years kicking off with this," Jared Laczko, Marketing Manager at JAC Live said.
"The Open," was put together to bring some much needed clientele to downtown businesses after the Realty building explosion and to let everyone know Youngstown is up and running once again.
While businesses were gearing up for the event, the Oh Wow center kicked things off early with free admission from nine to four, to help draw people in.
"We're just looking forward to welcoming folks downtown, hopefully some new visitors who have maybe never been here and are going to get a great experience, not only here at Oh Wow but out on federal with all the great activities happening," Katie Detoro, Oh Wow Executive Director said.
All the food is being served exclusively by downtown businesses and there will be a free concert all day long.
"We have a full line up of bands leading up to Red Wanting Blue from 9 o' clock to 11 tonight," Laczko said.
Laczko is hoping to see a few thousand folks come out.
