At times the Youngstown State football team has shown they can play a complete game.

Entering week nine it hasn't happened yet!

"I don't have an answer," said quarterback Beau Brungard.

"If I had an answer we'd be winning more football games, but a lot of new guys and we're building, keep getting better. We're just going to keep working," he continued.

The Penguins showed signs of putting together a 60 minute game scoring on their first two series against South Dakota and jumped out to a 14-0 advantage.

"I saw the improvement with guys playing fast, playing physical and I really believe out kids were not having fun. They were tense about making mistakes," said coach Doug Phillips.

Brungard believes in his team and he process.

"We have the players and we just have to put it together. We have great guys and we're working hard. If there's any guys in the locker room who aren't putting their best foot forward, as this point I don't think they'll be on the field," said Brungard.

Despite losing 10 players on defense to graduation and the transfer portal Phillips doesn't want excuses.

" We can do better as a team and I'm never going to make excuses or point fingers because that's not how you get through things."

The Penguins and Hawks kickoff at 6:00 pm Saturday night at Stambaugh Stadium
