Mahoning County Democrats label Valley native's remarks at Trump rally 'disgusting'
The Mahoning County Democratic Party has responded to a Valley native's racist comments at a rally in Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
Tony Hinchcliffe, who is from Mahoning County, took the podium at the rally, where he made comments about Puerto Ricans, Palestinians, and the Jewish and Black communities.
The party says that Hinchcliffe's comments do not represent Mahoning County or what Mahoning County stands for.
The Mahoning County Democratic Party Chair's statement can be read below:
"Mahoning County is the ultimate melting pot — a county settled by people from all over the world looking to make a new life for their family. The populations that this low budget hack decided to villainize account for nearly 25% of our County's population. The roughly 54,000 people that make up these communities deserve better than this, and the people who enable these kinds of disgusting viewpoints.
These are our neighbors, our friends, our loved ones. They're not a punchline in a joke – we'd expect better from ANYONE, but especially from a Mahoning County native who has seen first hand how our community benefits because it is comprised of so many different groups of people"
Anderson continued "It's time that Republicans up and down the ballot either reject this or acknowledge that they are fine with this awful rhetoric, said Mahoning Dems Chair Chris Anderson.
