Ohio Department of Transportation prepares for winter weather

The first winter weather advisories are approaching, so the Ohio Department of Transportation is making sure its road crews are ready for the worst winter has to offer.
Crews are working hard to finish up fall maintenance on the 25 trucks that are used to plow and treat roads in the Mahoning Valley.
The maintenance includes a 150 point inspection that includes sharpening plow blades and making sure that salt spinners are ready to go.
The Ohio Department of Transportation says the pre-treatment and brine have become crucial to their snow treatment over the years.
"One thing we've been doing over the last couple of years is increasing brine usage, we make our own brine, a mixture of rock, salt and water, and we've found that that has been just as useful as traditional salt," said ODOT Public Information Officer for District 4, Ray Marsch.
The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to host hiring events for plow truck drivers later this fall.
