The music played, the drinks poured and the lights shined at the annual Salem Regional Medical Center gala in Canfield Friday night.
Keynote speaker Shannon Miller's light shined in the 90s, winning two Olympic gold medals and five other medals.

Friday she came to The Valley to shine her light on others in their darkest hour.

"I think as an athlete, you learn to overcome adversity, injuries and other things, and then when life happens, you have to put that into play," Miller said.

She faced that reality after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011.

"I had so many survivors reach out to me and share their experience and that's what I want to do. I want to be on that support team for all of the other survivors that are going through a tough diagnosis."

Friday's fundraiser marked the biggest one of the year for Salem Regional.
More than 200 people came.
All the money they raised will go into the general fund and help pay for upcoming services and facilities.

"Six figures is what I'm going for," said president and CEO Dr. Anita Hackstedde. "Whether it's through our cancer program or our other services, it'll help all of our patients."

Help that's desperately needed, now and in the future.
