A fire damaged a home in New Caste Friday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at a home on the corner of Lowry and West Washington Street around 4:40 p.m.

Once on scene, they found smoke pouring through the basement windows. A car was parked in the driveway, and crews quickly searched the home but did not find anyone inside.

The flames reached the second floor of the home, damaging the inside.

New Castle assistant fire chief Josh Riley told 21 News that neighbors had seen a man going in and out of the basement, utilities were on in the home, but it's unclear if the fire was started intentionally.

The New Castle Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
