Movie spreading awareness on human trafficking being filmed in Campbell
A movie shining a light on the realities of human trafficking is being filmed at the Collingwood Recreation Center in Campbell.
After hearing the director’s vision for the movie, the owner of the center is letting the production company use the space.
“We need to start addressing this problem now in our country. We need to bring awareness to it. And we are going to start right here in our valley and try to conquer this,” said Jeff Collingwood, owner of the Collingwood Center.
The director of the movie feels the film’s message is important to the valley.
“It’s a huge problem in the world, and people don’t realize it's way closer than you think it is,” said Josh Hones, Writer and Director with Sane Productions.
The movie is called ”Roofied.” It’s being created in the valley to spark conversations about human trafficking.
The movie follows a married couple that gets drugged at a bar. Shortly after, the wife goes missing.
“There’s a search for her and all kinds of commotion. There will be like a flashlight on the dark world of human trafficking we’re trying to portray. There will be glimpses of hope, but it's absolutely a roller coaster of emotions,” said Hones.
David Sollberger is one of the lead actors in the film. He hopes his character helps people recognize the signs of human trafficking.
“How many times do you see something on TV? How many times do you read something, and you pass it and go, it's not going to happen to me, it's not going to happen to me. It’s not going to happen to my family. Well, it can,” said Solberger.
Sharing a message like this is reflective of Hone's work. In fact, the director is hoping to shed light on other critical issues in future projects.
“There’s multiple projects after this that I’m involved with that we’re prepping already. Foster care, foster home, foster home children. That’s a huge issue that we are going to address beginning next year,” said Hones.
Collingwood said he is more than happy to share the center for filming the movie, especially because it’s for a good cause.
“We are quite aware of the problem with the sex trafficking and the drugs in our valley. And we want to do everything we can to bring awareness to it and assist. We want to do some fundraisers for the K9 unit in Campbell,” said Collingwood.
Hones is filming other scenes in Cleveland, Akron and Lisbon. Filming is expected to be complete next month, and the movie is expected to be released next spring.
