The first round of opioid settlement funds is reaching Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The OneOhio Recovery Foundation announced Wednesday that $2.4 million in grants were being distributed to community and government organizations.

Three local groups receiving funding includes:

  • Beatitude House Permanent Supportive Housing Program received $140,500 for recovery support for three years.
  • Cadence Care Network's Project AWARE Trumbull County expansion received $247,678.20 for preventative care for substance and mental health care for the next three years. With the funds, the program is looking to hire behavioral health and wellness coaches to help students and families involving drug and alcohol concerns.
  • Mercy Health Foundation received $400,300 for recovery support for the three years.

The grants awarded this cycle are the first step in helping Ohioans combat substance abuse by supporting prevention, treatment and recovery efforts.

The first round saw 13 organizations receive funding, including those here in the Valley.

This first round is part of more than $51 million allocated for the 2024 Regional Grant Cycle and was selected from 1,442 funding requests, totaling $581 million from organizations statewide. A total of 777 organizations applied for funding as well.

"The people and organizations who are at the tip of the spear against the addiction epidemic in our state are an inspiration," said OneOhio Board Chair Don Mason. "The grants the Foundation is announcing today will support several of these amazing efforts and we are glad to be able to partner with them to support their missions. We've got more work to do but it's a privilege to support these meaningful efforts to help combat the addiction epidemic across our state."

Additional grants will be announced in the future.

Additionally, the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Board of Directors has preliminary approval for more than 150 additional grant awards and several grant recommendations remain in the review process.
