YOUNGSTOWN - On Tuesday morning, six new faces took an oath of office as they were being sworn in at the Youngstown Fire Department.

The department's fire chief, Barry Finley, told 21 News that his department is now at full staff with the addition of the new hires.

"Every truck on every turn will have the full complement of firefighters," Finley said.

During the ceremony each firefighter was presented with their official firefighter badge.

In total 11 new firefighters were hired this year. Mayor Tito Brown, who swore in two women and three men, said retaining all of them is a priority.

"We really want them to stay [and] and we also want to make sure they can grow professionally. There [will be] promotions available to them as well, Brown said.

After years of exploding overtime due to short staffing and call offs, the chief is optimistic that all stations will be able to stay open at all times now. And despite some of the recent public disputes between the two, the union agrees.
