Suspect in Youngstown high-speed chase due in court Friday

Youngstown Police were involved in a high-speed chase Wednesday after officers spotted a silver SUV running a traffic signal on Oak Hill Avenue near Cleveland Street.
Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the SUV continued heading north on the city's East side, running a second signal at Hillman Street and W. Woodland, according to the report.
The SUV continued to Glenwood Avenue, where it headed south.
The report states the SUV began passing rows of cars at a high rate of speed until it turned on Canfield Road, losing control and struck another vehicle.
The vehicle fled the accident scene through a parking lot and headed westbound on Canfield Road when officers lost sight of the vehicle.
Another patrol car spotted a silver SUV with front-end damage matching the description of the car being sought and started pursuing the car but was called off after the SUV started heading towards downtown Youngstown.
Officers located the SUV later at Oak Hill and Lakewood Avenue and saw the suspected driver leave the vehicle and enter a home in the 500 block of Lakewood Avenue.
Officers said an ID in the vehicle belonged to 34-year-old Nathaniel Cheatham Jr., and officers said they spoke with the suspect about his vehicle.
Cheatham was charged with hit skip/leaving the scene of an accident, driving under a suspension or nonpayment of judgment suspension and traffic control lights violation.
Cheatham was arraigned Thursday in Youngstown Municipal Court and has a hearing scheduled for Friday at 9 am.
Cheatham was also charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding police, both felonies of the third degree, and has a hearing scheduled in Youngstown Municipal Court Friday at 10:30 am.
