Illegal dumping cleanup efforts receive grant money after Brookfield man charged
Ohio Attorney General, David Yost, is allocating $1 million for new grants to fund illegal dumping cleanup efforts after a Brookfield man was given illegal dumping charges.
Mark Domascieno is charged with improperly dumping 35 tires in Youngstown. His pretrial hearing is on January 9, 2025.
Youngstown authorities were able to make this arrest in large part due to technology provided by Yost's Environmental Enforcement Section in coordinance with his "Shine a Light on Dumpers" initiative.
The initiative was launched by Yost's environmental team and exists to combat illegal dumping through education, technical equipment loans, training and legal guidance.
Now, the initiative can award grant funding to projects like the cleanup of illegal dumping sites.
"By holding offenders accountable and cleaning up illegal dump sites, we're working to restore the beauty and health of our local neighborhoods," said Yost.
The grant is effective Thursday, December 5, and the application window will run until February 28, 2025.
County and local governments can request up to $100,000 for dump site cleanup and up to $20,000 for preventative measures such as signs, gates and barriers.
