Sharon Regional workers will be paid until February 14 in event of January 6 closure
Workers at Sharon Regional Medical Center will have somewhat of a safety net in the event of a closure.
As it stands, the hospital is set to close Monday, January 6 after a notice of closure was issued on December 16 after Meadville Medical Center pulled its offer to purchase the hospital.
If the hospital does close as scheduled, all employees will still be paid through Friday, February 14.
Hospital Board President Bob Rogalski told 21 News this is because of the WARN Act, a federal law that requires employees to be paid 60 days of wages from the notice of a closure.
Those 60 days will be up February 14.
A rally was held in Sharon Thursday evening calling for the hospital to be saved. Ralliers said folks in the Shenango Valley have relied on Sharon Regional for care for years and access to local healthcare could be on the line for those people.
Also on the line are jobs for hospital employees who told 21 News they have not been provided any job relocation assistance despite the closure date being less than two weeks away.
As of this writing, no new buyers have shown interest in purchasing the hospital.
