Kennedy Catholic is transitioning its football program to 8 man.

The Eagles have struggled to field an 11 man team in recent years.

The school released a statement earlier tonight. Part of it includes:

"We are making an important decision to ensure our student-athletes are in the best position to compete and succeed. Beginning next season, Kennedy Catholic is moving to an 8-person league in Ohio, a shift that aligns with what many smaller schools are doing to maintain a competitive and sustainable program.  This decision was made after careful consideration of our program's future with the best interests of our student-athletes in mind."

Two Mahoning Valley programs , Chalker and Sebring already play 8 man football.
