Police investigating after cooking oil stolen from Boardman restaurant

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Police in Boardman are investigating after receiving reports of stolen cooking oil from a restaurant in the area.
According to a police report, police met with a Buffalo Biodiesel employee who visited a restaurant on the 800 block of Boardman-Poland Road to empty the used cooking oil tank behind the restaurant.
The employee told police the cable lock on the tank had been cut and the locking bar that covers the lid had been removed and set to the side.
It is unclear when the theft happened or how much oil may have been taken, but police say the cooking oil is valued at $2 to $3 per gallon.
According to the report, records indicate the last time the tank was emptied was May of 2024, but the employee told police he didn't think it had been that long.
Police say the restaurant does have a camera behind the building, but it is unknown if this will help pinpoint any suspects because the camera is not pointed directly at the tank.
No suspects have been named and no charges have been filed at this time.
