Legislation introduced to provide property tax relief for Ohioans

Ohio State Senator Sandra O'Brien has introduced legislation that would provide Ohioans with property tax relief.
According to a press release, Ohio's property tax burden ranked at #11 for the highest effective property tax rate nationwide at nearly 1.3% in 2022. That data does not include the most recent increases in 2023 and 2024.
That's why O'Brien introduced Senate Bill 66, which would save Ohio property owners nearly $300 million in the next three years according to the release.
"Ohioans have some of the largest property tax bills in the nation and we have a mandate from the voters to do something about it," O'Brien said.
According to the release, this will be done by modifying a school district's 20-mill floor calculation. The new calculation would include most voted levies and would include all inside millage including permanent improvement levies.
