A Warren man has been charged with animal cruelty after a local animal shelter says 11 dogs were removed from his home.

Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County Executive Director Bethany Cluckey told 21 News a search warrant was served on the 1600 Block of Union Street in Warren, which resulted in 11 dogs being removed from the home.

Following this, 70-year-old Freddie Washington was arrested and charged with four misdemeanor counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals.

Cluckey told 21 News she could not provide further comment on the case including comments about the dogs' conditions because the investigation is still open. A call sheet from the Warren Police Department alleges that Washington left the dogs abandoned in the home.

In the meantime, court records show Washington is due back in court February 11.

21 News is working to learn more about this case and the condition of the dogs. We will update this story with more information as we get it.
